New Massage Clients: What to Expect
Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky Massage Therapy
It is important that my clients know what to expect from their first professional massage visit. In order to increase your comfort level, I have provided an outline so that you may understand the typical process for receiving massage therapy.
If you find you have any additional questions, please fell free to call me at any time. The most important thing for me is to know that you feel comfortable at all times. Our goal is to create an open environment— while taking a holistic approach towards healing your body, mind and spirit.
Preparation
In preparation for your massage, I recommend that you do not eat for at least 1.5 hours prior to your appointment. During the massage we will be working to increase the blood circulation throughout your peripheral body to aide in the healing process. This can cause poor digestion during the session as well as possible discomfort from the pressure of massage on a full belly.
When You Arrive
Upon arriving, I will ask that you fill out a brief and confidential health intake form. If you wish to save time or would like to review the document at your own pace, I have provided an option to download the form. Once it is downloaded, simply print and bring the completed form with you.
When you arrive, I will go over the form with you before we start the therapy session. This is so we can determine the best type of treatment for you. It is very important that you disclose any injuries or ailments from which you have suffered in the past as they can still be causing imbalances in the body. It is easy to forget this step, so please spend a few extra moments remembering.
During the Massage
During the massage, you will be covered/draped with a sheet and blanket at all times. Only the area being worked will be exposed. I will be applying oils and lotions to the body, which will nourish your skin and allow for a smoother gliding massage technique. If you suffer from any allergies— or have concerns about any of the products I will be using— please let me know before we begin. Also keep in mind that massage is a holistic practice. Therefore, I will try to create a space for you to connect with your body, mind and spirit.
Following the Session
After your massage, it is common to feel a little tender in areas or stiff the next day. This is simply the effect of toxins leaving your muscle tissue. The best way to hydrate your muscles and flush these toxins from your body— now that they have been released— is to drink plenty of water.
I also recommend taking an Epsom Salt bath after your session. This will soothe and calm your muscles, as well as enhance the benefits of the massage. Massage is most effective if we both work together to heal your body. Please remember that any stretching and / or recommendations
I give you are intended to help you reach your goals for healing more safely and quickly.
